Day 7 was a slow and lazy day, but just what the kids needed. We got out of dodge around 9 and headed to the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, IL. It was a small zoo and we walked around for about an hour.
Then we hit Steak & Shake (whoa) on the way to our final destination for the day. The food was greasy and delicious and I’m so glad I paid no attention to the caloric intake. Sometimes you just got to live a little.
Windmills. Let’s just talk about that. I believe on our nearly 3 hour drive yesterday through Illinois we saw about 150 windmills. Easy. On almost every horizon you can watch nature produce energy – clean energy. Come on NH – step up your game.
We spent the afternoon at the camp ground. The nicest one we’ve stayed at so far – Peru LaSalle KOA. They’ve received the Presidential Award – and it was easy to see why. Clean, nice bathrooms and pool. I was pretty pleased.
During our low key afternoon, I got to visit with my friend Dannie and our kids got along, too!
The rest of the evening we spent in the pool because the humidity was just too intense. Tom made tacos for dinner and we ate, then got back in the pool to cool off before bed!
Once back in the camper, a storm started brewing. When we got the alert for 40mph and nickel sized hail we all jumped in the car to wait out the storm. Luckily, we didn’t see any of that but did get to watch a cool storm pass over. Once it was through, we were off to bed.
And this is what we woke up to:
MOOOooooooo! This explains the amazing about of flies that we encountered.
Off to Great Wolf Lodge (unbeknownst to the kids). We have a 2.5 hour drive, so let’s hope that baby sleeps!!
We told them:
