Our first trip back in the camper in 2018 and everyone is pumped. Per usual, our plan to be out of the house was delayed by an hour or more, but we made it out the door nonetheless.
We traveled from Londonderry to Wiscasset, Maine and arrived shortly after 5pm. Our immediate opinion of the Chewonki Campground was that it was the most beautiful campground we’d ever been to. And it held true. As we entered our site, the view was unlike anything I could have imagined. Tom picked this site last minute and the pictures online don’t do it justice. It was a vast and open view of this inlet. Birds everywhere, kayakers paddling by.
After we (Tom) set up the camper it was time to seek out a local lobster shack. We all got out at Sprague’s Lobster along the Sheepscot River and ordered our dinner.
We took our food back to our campsite. Tucker and I each grabbed a lobster roll, Tom had a haddock sandwich. Griffin had a hot dog and Penny had a burger. Everyone was satisfied.
After we ate I set up beds and we bundled up for our campfire, s’mores, and some stargazing with Tucker’s telescope.
We got a clear view of Saturn and it’s rings and Jupiter and it’s 4 largest moons. We also saw without the telescope Venus and Mars – but weren’t able to get to them with the telescope (Tom was eager to to relax at the fire and Tucker needed to get to bed).
It was a great night and we were reluctant to leave such a pristine spot. We vowed to be back next year, later in the season so we can pick their blackberry bushes clean!
