Maine 2018 Day 2

We were packed up and out by 10 headed for Acadia. Admittedly, we were not as prepared food wise and hadn’t yet shipped for groceries. The kids started the day with a couple handfuls of animal crackers and off we went.

We searched for a spot to grab coffee and a bite and although Google delivered no results, we happened upon Old Time Donuts. Jackpot. To say this was a treat is an understatement. Fresh out of the oven, these donuts were the best we’d ever had. The big kids had chocolate sugared, Griffin had a plain glazed, I had coconut and Tom had strawberry jelly! Divine.

However, we have a growing 7 year old boy. And he was still starving. So when we stopped for gas he insisted on gas station pizza, hot dog, and chips. And asked for more when he ate through that.

Along the lines of our unpreparedness, we forgot all raincoats. Since the forecast calls for rain the last two days of our trip, we needed to make a pit stop at an LL Bean outlet for new raincoats for everyone (minus Griffin, I did remember his!)

One last stop for groceries once we got into Bar Harbor and then we checked into the Blackwoods Campground. Great site set amping the pines. We got set up by about 3:30 then headed off to hike the Otter Creek trail all the way to Thunder Hole.

Once we checked out the beautiful ocean walk, we realized hiking back was a lot to ask of the kids so we hopped on a shuttle which took us into the Village Green. By this point it was 6:45 so we opted for a Mexican restaurant instead of heading back to cook dinner.

Everyone filled their bellies and we caught the 8:30 bus back to the campground. Bedtime was not a struggle and the kids were all fast asleep within minutes. Tom and I even got a few minutes to put our feet up and enjoy some quiet time.
