Tucker was our early riser today. Fortunately, Tom snuck him out of the camper and took him down the way to play catch for awhile. Penny and Griffin (and also me) then slept until 8am. Miraculous.
We had heard the weather would be questionable today so we weren’t entirely sure what we’d be able to do. So we headed into Bar Harbor to check if the afternoon whale watch was running and to see if there was a laundromat. The boat said they would probably run, but to check back around noon. We walked the shore and found balance rock. The kids each built their own tower in the forest of rock towers surrounding “balance rock”.
By this point we all got pretty hangry and headed to the Bar Harbor Beerworks for lunch. I was able to snag another lobster roll and Tom had a bacon blue cheese burger to satiate our pallets! One fully de-hangried, we headed to to the docks to check on our whale watch. The pouring rain decided for us and we all hopped back in the car to find a laundromat.
We started a load then went to grab groceries, then back to set it to dry. The kids were at each other’s throats so our patience was wearing. Once the clothes were dry we’d considered just going back to camp. However, it was only 1:30 so heading home wouldn’t do much for the kids, who were bored. So we stopped off at Sur des monte, a beautiful natural garden, nature center, and pathway through the woods. Everyone was able to stretch their legs and let out some energy.
After a good long walk down the Jesup Path, we all hopped back in the car back to camp, but decided ice cream was on the menu first. We stopped at a neat little place right outside of down town. Griffin had a Maine sweet cream, Tucker and Penny each had cookies and cream, Tom had Praline & Cream (yum) and I had a blueberry cobbler ice cream concoction. It was a great treat.
Once back to the camper, we all cooked our own hot dogs on the fire and called it a really early night. All the kids were asleep by 7:30, and we got to relax for a couple hours by the fire.
