Day 20 on our last full day in the park we headed out early again. Tucker showed me the mud volcano that he and Tom had visited the other day. Super stinky!
We then headed north to Lamar Valley. Here we saw hundreds and hundreds of Bison. It was awe inspiring.
We had a quick bite on an overlook watching the herds. It was only quick because a lone bison decided to crash the party. So before he arrived we packed up really quick and hightailed it to the car.
We made a quick pitstop when we saw a bunch of people with huge lenses observing a wolf pack.
We then headed out for a hike around Trout Lake. It was really beautiful. I kept thinking of the Sound of Music because it seemed so similar.
We came back through the Lamar Valley and headed up towards Mammoth. We then took a scenic 7 mile drive over a dirt road that popped us out back by the Tower Ranger Station.
We grabbed a quick bite and checked out the Petrified Tree. However, a storm was blowing in so we headed to the Tower ranger station for the kids Junior Ranger Badges. Unfortunately, they did not issue them out of that Ranger Station so we had to head back to Canyon Village. By this time, Tom was already stressing about time and making our dinner reservations, so when we got stuck behind a driver going 20mph below the speed limit, our adventure became a little stressful. Anyone who has driven in a car with Tom under time restrictions can understand how “fun” that drive was….
But, we made it to the Ranger Station and the kids got their Yellowstone Junior Ranger Badges.
Then it was off to Roosevelt Corrals to catch our 5:00pm horse drawn carriage ride into the Pleasant Valley for a Chuck Wagon Dinner. It was delicious and Tom devoured approximately 3 10oz Steaks.
The kids enjoyed visiting with the horses as well as the history lessons about the park along the ride back.
It all looks so wonderful. Again, thanks so much for the photos. They are wonderful.
