Day 17 Wyoming 5/8 Grand Tetons

Day 17 We headed south out of Yellowstone into the Grand Teton National Park. It was a breathtaking drive – and that is a literal statement. The mountains were stunning and every bend brought a new beautiful viewpoint.

We took a boat ride over Jenny Lake to hike to Hidden Falls and Lower Inspiration Point. It was a good and short hike for the kids and we both enjoyed it was well. We smelled pine trees and saw blueberries growing on the side of the trail.

Next we had a picnic lunch at String Lake. While we ate we watched a storm blow over the mountain. Although as we had our eye on the radar and it appeared to be heading north of us, it still hit us square on and also produced a hail storm. The plus side was everyone left and Tom was able to move our car closer because we had been in a far parking lot. So we waited out the storm in the car and when we emerged we found a 20* temperature drop. It odid not derail the kids, however, they still wanted to swim! That is, until they put their feet in the glacier lake. Tom dove right in, of course, and Tucker worked his way in. Penny was not having it.

On the way North from String Lake we took a detour up Signal Mountain.

Next we headed over to the Colter Bay visitors center for a Junior Ranger program for Teton Kids. The kids learned all about some of the wildlife at Grand Teton including getting to look at Grizzly and Black Bear claws.

Once the program ended we all were ready to head home and Tom cooked up Cheeseburger Scramble (we are a big fan of one pot cooking for our trip). After that we of course had s’mores and enjoyed a colored fire. The kids also had some playtime with a neighboring camper. Tom also was able to relax in his hammock for a hot second.

(I can’t get enough of this picture of Griffin.)

Another successful day in the books.
